Teen Screenwriting Program

Submit ideas, write a script, and your script might be made into a film!

47

Collaborative Cinema accepts one-page script ideas (also called treatments) for short films from any local high school student.  Writers of the top 50 treatments are invited to two workshops with professional mentors. During these workshops, students learn everything they need to know about writing a script from story and character development to formatting a screenplay. They also receive one-on-one feedback from professionals as they turn their ideas into 10-page scripts. Finished scripts become contenders for the Collaborative Cinema summer film shoot.

When are the workshops?

Feb 25 (Saturday) and March 31 (Saturday).

How much does it cost?

It’s FREE!

When is the deadline?

Treatments must be received by Friday, January 27, 2012.

What do I submit?

Your treatment should be one page or less. In fact, one paragraph is fine. Just let us know what story you would like to tell. There are no restrictions on the idea you submit, and all can be developed in the screenwriting workshops. Our summer shoot, however, occurs in Milwaukee. For your script to be considered for the summer film shoot, your script must be filmable in Milwaukee.

Who is eligible?

Any high school student (grades 9 – 12) in the Milwaukee area.

How do I submit?

The submission period for 2012 has now passed. The top 50 submissions will be notified by February 10, 2012 and will be provided further information regarding the first screenwriting workshop to be held on February 25, 2012.

What’s the Catch?

Aside from being asked to attend two workshops, there is none. Seriously. This is your chance to write a short script with the support of professional writers and filmmakers and emerge with an impressive piece of writing! If your script is made into a film, you will be invited to set and have an amazing film inspired by your words.
